Inspiring Tasmanian Skye

I've lived in Australia for more than 7 years ... and I have never been to Tasmania. Which is ridiculous, because it's surely one of the most beautiful places on earth, and is only a couple hours' plane ride away.

Skye, on the other hand, has her act together. Taking a break from gecko experiments recently, she and her family headed down to Tasmania to hike the Overland Track, including the spectacular Cradle Mountain and Lake St Claire.

We thought you might enjoy some of her pictures ...

The 7 day/ 6 night hike took Skye into all 4 seasons: bright, warm sunshine; bone-chilling rain; and even 6 inches of snow. In fact, there was so much snow they weren't able to climb some of the mountains they'd planned to. (Hopefully that gave them more time to warm up with hot chocolate ??)

And besides the scenery, there was lots of wildlife - including Bennett's wallabies, Tasmanian pademelons, platypus, southern quoll and (!!) wombats! They also saw feral cats, which wasn't so great.

So if you're having a rotten day at work, or those research papers are fuzzing before your eyes ... click on this post and remember that there are trees and mountains and lakes and wallabies in that world out there beyond your office ...

I know Skye's looking forward to her next trip down to Tassie ... and, for that matter, so am I!
